Why Jet skiing in Ibiza is a bucket list thing.

Imagine yourself flowing with the sea stream, enjoying the peaceful landscapes in the warm Ibizan sun, or floating freely at high speed over the waters of Ibiza like a seagull. I'm talking about jet skiing, my favourite thing to do in Ibiza, and I'll tell you why. Also, I will share some practical information and tips when renting a jet ski in Ibiza from my own experience.

Ibiza is a very diverse and unique island, nothing new about that. But what I've seen is that many tourists who come to Ibiza don't really discover the island.

Sure, you rent a car, you'll go to Es Vedra for sunset, visit Dalt Vila at night and drive to some famous beaches. But Ibiza, as I know, it has so much more to offer. I mean, every corner has its vibe. For example, the north of the island, famous for its bohemian, laidback vibe, offers gorgeous sceneries you have to see before you die.

You can't say you've been to Ibiza or you know Ibiza if you haven't seen Ibiza from the water, specifically by jet ski.

Going out on a jet ski is an entirely different experience from going out on a boat. Don't get me wrong, renting a boat is fun too. It brings comfort and ease. While on a jet ski, you feel unity with the water. It's almost like you can move like a dolphin and feel free.

One of my favourite activities in Ibiza is jet skiing. It brings me so much pleasure, happiness and a sense of great freedom. It feels like nothing else matters anymore when you are skiing the waters at exciting speeds and find secret places no one comes. Sometimes romantic, sometimes exciting and even a bit mysterious now and then.

When you appreciate non-touristy places to experience the authentic tropical Ibiza vibe, as if you are in the Caribbean, I highly recommend starting your jet ski journey in Santa Eulalia and going up to the north of the island. From a water perspective, the landscapes you'll see are true art. I've seen faces, animals, and signs from the universe in those rocks. And as you are admiring the beauty of nature, you fall in love with Ibiza (all over again).

The magic we associate Ibiza with can be felt when visiting little caves and coves. Places you can't come by car and sometimes not even by boat.

Oh! Did I mention already that I've seen dolphins while jet skiing? That was in the area of Benirras and the middle of April. It's not uncommon to see dolphins in the waters of Ibiza, but it's still special when it happens to you. And with a jet ski, it is pretty easy to come close to them, more accessible than by boat. That's a good reason to rent a jet ski for a day if you ask me.

Jet skiing can also be fun for kids. When they can swim and are comfortable swimming independently in the sea, they are okay to join you for a jet ski ride. My son of 9, who is not the bravest kid on the planet, enjoyed doing some funny tricks and riding the waves at high speed. Jet skiing is for everyone!

Now, let's talk about routes.

I've done quite some routes the past year; I'm happy to share my favourite ones with the north of Ibiza as my number 1.

Routes you must see by jet ski.

  1. From Santa Eularia to Benirrás (+/- 4 hours return trip)
    • Faro De Punta Grossa, the abandoned lighthouse, that was built in 1847.
    • Tagomago, a private island, recently sold for 150 million.

    • From Sant Antonio to Cala d’Hort (+/- 4 hours return trip)
      • Es Vedra, the magical rock of Ibiza famous for its magnetic energy. By jet ski, you can touch the actual rock.
      • Little Illa islands; a small group of tiny islands where you can jet ski in between; it feels like Teletubbyland.

      • From San Antonio to Santa Agnès de Corona (+/- 4 hours return trip)
        • Ses Margalides; A big rock in the sea in the shape of a turtle with a bow you can go underneath by jet ski. When the sun is in a specific position, they say that a natural jacuzzi appears in one of the coves inside the rock.

Jet skiing is fun, but as with everything, some rules apply, and it's always good to be prepared. So here are some things you need to know before renting a jet ski in Ibiza.

Tips and practical info

  • The daily rate for renting a jet ski is around 300 Euro, and a deposit between 500 and 1.000 is required.
  • You need a boat license for small boats in Ibiza to go freely
  • Between October and May, you might need a wetsuit; not every jet ski rental company has one. So ask up front just in case. I also recommend wearing water shoes; most little beaches or islands have rocks. Water shoes make it easier for you to go to shore.
  • The jet ski has a compartment where you can store your stuff, and most jet skis have a special waterproof bag so you can take your phone to take beautiful pictures.
  • Prepare some food and bring enough drinks for a picnic at one of the secret little beaches.
  • Bring goggles. You will discover fantastic turquoise bays and mysterious tiny islands where you can admire the undersea world.

Are you an adrenaline junky like me, or do you appreciate calmness and tranquillity? Whatever you seek, a jet ski day in Ibiza will change your life if you appreciate magical landscapes and mysterious coves.
